The Education Committee of the Afghan Home USA shall strive to develop, organize and offer educational programs and services that will help Afghan students personally, professionally, and academically.
Our program will help Afghan students in the DMV area gain the skills needed to succeed the competitive education system of the United States of America in the era of internationalization and information technology. Even American students must compete with international students for a seat at top colleges here in the U.S.A. This poses greater challenge to Afghan students who are facing enormous challenges due to lack of familiarity with the higher education system in the United States in addition to the language and cultural barriers.
Furthermore, our program will also focus on professional and skill-based trainings that will help students and recent graduates become competitive applicants in the job market. Finally, we are also helping those seeking vocational training and will facilitate adult education for the newly arrived Afghan immigrants.
The education committee of Afghan Home USA aims to creates a platform for the community members and facilitate sharing jobs, internship opportunities, academic and professional resources, networking forums and skills-based trainings/webinars.
This committee also provides volunteers to provide translation services from English to the local Afghan languages and vice versa.
As the first step, the education committee will be offering a series of information sessions on US higher education virtually on the following topics:
- Introduction to USA Higher Education
- Undergrad Education in the United States
- Graduate Education in the United States
- Financing Higher Education in the United States
Additionally the committee is developing webinars on financial literacy, building credits and other professional and skill-based certification programs.
